For the Icons show I had to do a theme piece. As much fun as it might have been I wasn't about to do a portrait of insert-famous-person. Fun for me since I like to paint people. Boring for the audience since I was guessing there might be dozens of such portraits. Instead of that I seized on my own interest in both Russian Icons and the sort of subtly subversive imagery that someone like the UK's Banksy does to come up with this old + new, sacred + profane "Icon" melange. Goofy.
